Death's Head Moth (A. atropos)

The Death's Head Moth is a native of northern Africa that migrates into Europe. It's a rather large moth with contrasting yellow undersides and black outer wings. It is one of the few Lepidoptra that makes a that squeaking noise from its proboscis when disturbed.

The atropos large gets quite large before pupating in the ground. It feeds on privet or potato leaves.
